Copper Versus PVC Piping for Your Home

Admin • March 28, 2017

Whether you are a property developer or a homeowner planning your custom home, one of the most important decisions you may need to make is the type of material you will use for your pipes: copper or PVC. Both of these materials come with certain benefits.

Copper Metal
Copper is a metal that has been used for piping for many decades. As a result, many individuals and organizations have gotten used to copper and feel safe with it, and most building codes allow the use of copper. Additionally, copper is durable and can be beneficial during national disasters. It’s typically strong enough to withstand earthquakes. Furthermore, copper may also handle really hot temperatures, so they won’t burn or spread the flames in case of a fire.

PVC Material
PVC is an artificially created substance made of various chemicals. A benefit of PVC is that it typically does not corrode. Therefore, drinking and washing water passing through the pipes generally won’t be negatively affected. Additionally, this material also tends to have better insulation, allowing hot water to stay in the pipes longer, thereby minimizing the need of the water heater to work as often. This normally makes PVC pipes more energy efficient.

Deciding whether to use PVC or copper for your building’s piping depends on your needs and what is important to you. Call Crown Hardware & Plumbing Supply Inc. to learn more about copper and PVC pipes.
